Executive Overview:

Tajamal is a structured finance specialist with over 25 years of extensive experience in asset-based leveraged financing, especially in the field of aircraft and property finance. He has worked on plain finance facilities, syndicated loans, as well as utilization of capital markets and securitization products. Has accumulated considerable experience in finance structures to meet the needs of clients, such as leveraged leases, sale and lease-back structures, and tax-driven Japanese, German, and USA Pickle-Dole leveraged leases. He has in-depth knowledge of security tools such as mortgages, assignments, floating and fixed charges, liens, and different types of guarantees and trade finance products.

Before joining Tasheel Law Firm as partner, he worked in private practice as a senior associate in the international law firm DLA Piper in its banking division and as a Managing Partner for the niche corporate commercial law firm THS & Co whose clients included multinationals such as Sanofi Aventis, Telenor, Coca-Cola Export Corp., Huwaei, Jazz etc.

He has considerable in-house experience including as South Asia – Regional Head of Legal and External Affairs for the UK multinational BAT plc, Senior Legal Advisor to the UK Export Agency, and Legal Advisor to the UK Department of Trade and Industry regulating the financial services industry.

As assistant company secretary for BEAMA (UK), he drafted precedent terms and conditions for the electrical and mechanical industry to be used in construction contracts.

With private practice and in-house experience, he has a considerable understanding of client challenges and issues and how private practicing lawyers should meet the client’s needs.

  6. $273 million facility to finance the purchase of 3 aircraft via a simple finance lease using a Cayman Island SPC.
  7. $100 million facility to finance the sale of 2 aircraft via a straight loan secured with mortgages on the aircraft to Sri Lanka Airlines.
  8. Sale of Boeing 777 to Emirates with Rolls Royce engines via Japanese leveraged lease structure;
  9. Sale of an aircraft by the use of a Japanese leveraged leases, with and without Yen deposits and with and without the use of strip guarantees
  10. Sale of two aircraft was financed with a plain vanilla loan to Air Malta, from a local bank, which was funded by lenders based outside the jurisdiction.
  11. Sale of five Airbus aircraft using a German leveraged lease to Air Canada, with an option to further utilize a Hong Kong lease.
  12. US Pickle-Dow lease used for the financing of an aircraft for Air Canada
  13. $40 million facility to buy Citation X for a private businessman
  14. Drafted various security documents such as mortgages, assignment agreements, floating and fixed charges, liens, and pledge agreements;

  17. Transactions backed by export-financing guarantees from agencies such as ECGD, COFACE, and HERMES;
  18. The first government-guaranteed Islamic securitization involving Daiwa Bank and ECGD to fund the sale of an aircraft to Malaysian Airlines.
  19. Various property financing transactions utilizing facilities over £30m for property developments;
  20. Formation of corporate structure by setting up a new foreign-owned subsidiary in Pakistan;
  21. Establishment of a joint venture company in Myanmar, and later acquisition of partner’s shareholding
